I am Lieke, the creator and maker behind Luminlique. Through my brand, I want to make the world around the set table more beautiful. What started as a hobby in a cozy kitchen in Brabant quickly grew into something special: a colorful creation that brings a smile to many people's faces. Luminlique is becoming a complete brand for everyone who loves an atmospheric home, built on a solid foundation of European craftsmanship with a touch of DIY.
From 'kitchen-lab' to...
My journey began in 2020, when I decided to quit my steady job. That search for inspiration took a different turn than planned when a hernia operation forced me to come to a complete standstill. It was during that recovery that the idea for my own company began to grow.
My kitchen quickly turned into a laboratory. I was determined to work with sustainable rapeseed wax — the most natural wax on earth — which was quite a puzzle for the pillar candles I wanted to make. After a lot of experimenting, I found the right formula. When the first candles sold out immediately in my mother's store, I knew: this is it.
Growth and conscious choices
In the beginning, I made every candle myself, but that quickly became too much. My strength is that I am a true entrepreneur with a thousand and one creative ideas, but that is also my pitfall. I had to learn how to manage that better, so that I can maintain focus on the quality of my products and the personal contact with my customers.
To safeguard that quality, I have switched to professional production. Now we collaborate with a specialized factory in Bulgaria and a social workshop where people with a distance to the labor market make the candles with great love. I consciously choose Europe; it is better for the planet and ensures that working conditions are good.
The name: LUMINLIQUE
The name of my brand is a mix of inspiration and meaning. It combines the French word lumière (light), my own name Lieke, and unique. Together, they form the essence of what I do: a celebration of light and individuality. Have you spotted the 'NL' in the logo yet? That represents the place where Luminlique originated!
